Important Information

Alcohol

Alcohol should not be consumed before or within 24 hours after any procedure, or in conjunction with medication.

Amenities  

Complimentary shampoo, conditioner and soap are provided in your room on arrival.

For first class patients, the hospital offers a bottle of water and box of tissue upon admission (one time only)

Towels are provided under your request.

Car parking

There is a parking area at the main Hospital entrance.

Visitors should be aware that parking congestion can occur on weekdays at peak times around midday and are encouraged to visit only during the visiting hours.

Visiting hours

Our patients’ health is our primary concern and ensuring they have time to rest and recuperate every day is very important to their progress. If you are in a shared room, please ask your visitors to respect the needs of other patients.

Visiting hours are between:

Building A:

  • Medical/Surgical Ward 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor : 9 AM to 7.30 PM
  • (CSU): visitation hours and duration will be assessed and accommodated when needed.

 

Building B:

  • Pediatrics, Medical/Surgical Ward: 5th, 6th and 7th floor: 9 AM to 7.30 PM
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) & Coronary Care Unit (CCU): 12:30 PM to 1 PM and 5:30 PM to 6 PM.

 

Special visitation needs of each patient will be assessed and accommodated as required.

No more than 2 visitors / patient are recommended.

 

Visitor responsibility:
  1. Follow visiting hours. 
  2. Wash hand immediately before entering, and immediately upon leaving a patient’s room, or apply antibacterial solution.
  3. Respect any sign on the patient room’s door requiring any certain precautions before entering.

 

Overnight stay

Because family support is so important, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital welcomes and encourages family members to stay with their patients on the general units; only one person is permitted to stay.

Note that 1rst class rooms will include a sleep chair for one person; moreover the hospital provides a folding bed which will be charged as mentioned in the slip signed by the patient. Unfortunately, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital doesn’t advice for overnight stay in 2nd class rooms due to sufficient space to put /bed/ sleeping chair.

 

Food from outside the hospital 

To safeguard the health of your loved one and our patient, it is very important that patients only consume food, fruits and liquids provided by the hospital.

Visitors and family members are not permitted to:

  • Bring food or fruits into the hospital. Candy and chocolates are permitted.
  • Give patients any food, fruits, or liquids other than water.
  • Eat food, fruits, or liquids in patient rooms or in waiting areas.

 

Plants & flowers

Because the hospital takes every effort to maintain a clean and safe environment, visitors and family members are requested not to bring or have delivered balloons, flowers, especially plants, into the hospital.

It is strictly forbidden for immune-compromised patients, post-surgical patients, and patients with tracheotomies to have flowers or plants in their room.

Mothers that gave birth are permitted to receive flowers.

For the protection of patients who are allowed to receive flowers, the flowers must be placed outside the room at night or at the conclusion of visiting hours.

 

Patients visiting other patients

Patients are not allowed to visit each other.

 

Smoking     

Smoking is not allowed inside any hospital building including patient’s room balconies.

Smoking is allowed in the garden and in the designated smoking area outside the cafeteria.

 

Fire alarm

In a personal emergency you can call for assistance by pressing the “Nurse Call’ button.

In the unlikely event of a general emergency, remain calm and await instructions from staff.

Please do not leave the ward/unit unless you are instructed to do so by staff.

 

Leave valuables at home

At the time of admission, you should put your valuables on consignment in the Main Cashier fund from 7 to 17h from Monday to Friday, Saturday from 7h to 13h and in the Emergency Admission fund from 17h to 7h Monday to Friday, Saturday from 13h to 7 am the next day.

Otherwise it is warned that the hospital management takes no responsibility for theft or loss of your valuables in its establishment.

Belongings such as dentures, hearing aids, walking sticks, prosthetics and clothing should be assigned to a family member.

 

Interpreters

The Hospital is able to organize interpreters and translators for you.  Please ask your nurse.

 

Junior medical staff

The Hospital is committed to providing the highest level of care.  Junior doctors are employed by the Hospital as part of their training and ongoing education. They provide support and assistance to many of the specialists working in the Hospital.  Our junior doctors work very closely with our specialists and may be involved in your care whilst you are an inpatient.

 

Medications   

To ensure the optimal management of your medications whilst in Hospital, a Clinical Pharmacist is available to review the medications you have been taking at home. The Clinical Pharmacist will ensure that only current medications are given appropriately and will also assess and explain any new medications that are commenced in Hospital.

Please ensure you have your medications with you in their original containers and any current prescriptions you may have. If you use a medication delivery device such as a dosette box or Webster type pack, the delivery device may not be appropriate for Hospital use. If this is the case you may be prescribed and dispensed new medications to ensure your medication safety.

While you are on the ward, your medications will be stored in the nurse’s medication room and dispensed by your nurse/midwife.  If your doctor changes your medications during your stay, new medications will be supplied by the Hospital pharmacy.

 

Mobile phones

Please be courteous when using mobile phones. Restrictions do apply in the Neonatal Unit, Delivery Suites, Intensive Care, Coronary Care Units and Operating Room.

 

Pastoral services

Our pastoral services are provided 24/7 at extension 5452 by professionally quali?ed pastoral practitioners and accredited Chaplains. You may request a sheikh or a priest. They can attend to your pastoral, religious and spiritual needs, accompany the dying and their family and support you and your family during your hospital stay.

 

Church: 

Church is located on the 5th floor Building B; it is open 24/7.We provide Communion at bedside when requested. 

The mass may be viewed on your television at any time.

Mass:

  • Sunday at 9h a.m.
  • Wednesday & Friday at 16h p.m.
  • Saturday at 18h.30 p.m.

 

Students

The Hospital has links with many universities and medical students, nurses/midwives on training, as well as allied health practitioners, may be involved in your care.  All students work under the supervision of a quali?ed medical practitioner, registered nurse/midwife or health care professional.  If you have any questions about students, please speak to the nurse/midwife caring for you.
